THE WALKING MAN is a landscape performance conceived and realized by the collective DOM-, a strolling trip of about four hours for 20 spectators at a time. The work premiered at the Terni Festival in 2015 and has continued a tour in several Italian and international venues. A man, shadowy and elusive, walks through the city. His journey opens and hides the landscape from the eyes of the public that follows him at a distance, as if spying on him, hovering between identification and detachment.
The spaces follow one another as in an uninterrupted sequence - a square, a station, a cathedral, a wasteland, a swamp, a public swimming pool, a motel.
Starting from the graphic novel by Jiro Taniguchi, DOM- builds a dramaturgy of spaces to let blow up the borders between urban and third landscape, center and periphery, human and non-human: as we delve deeper and deeper into the entanglements of the city, environments and bodies transfigures into unusual forms, and the living experience of the journey becomes a pretext for a body-to-body with reality.
